How to read the answer
Circumference is a length — the distance you would walk around the edge of the circle — so it uses the plain unit, never square units. An exact answer like 14π means 14 × 3.14159... ≈ 43.98.
Common mistakes and edge cases
- Using 2πr with the diameter instead of the radius doubles the answer. With a diameter, use C = πd.
- Working from area requires a square root: r = sqrt(A/π), not A/π.
- Zero or negative values cannot form a circle and return an error.
- Rounding π to 3.14 early gives a slightly different decimal; the calculator uses full precision and shows the exact form.

What is the circumference formula?+
C = 2πr using the radius, or C = πd using the diameter. Both say the same thing because d = 2r.
How do I find circumference from area?+
First get the radius: r = sqrt(A/π). Then C = 2πr. Shortcut: C = 2·sqrt(πA).
What is circumference in terms of π?+
It is the answer written as a multiple of π without converting to a decimal. Radius 7 gives 14π; that is exact, while 43.98 is rounded.
Is circumference the same as perimeter?+
Yes — circumference is the word for the perimeter of a circle. Both measure the distance around the outside in plain length units.
Why is π used for circumference?+
π is the ratio of any circle's circumference to its diameter, about 3.14159. Every circle, no matter its size, has C/d = π.
Can I use 3.14 for π?+
For quick estimates yes, but 3.14 is slightly small (π = 3.14159265...). Use the exact form or the full-precision decimal for graded work.
